Library Rules and Regulations

Membership:

All registered students, faculty, and staff can access the VIT Central Library. Alumni may have restricted access, depending on their standing.

Timings:

The library typically operates from morning until late evening, with extended hours during exam periods. Specific opening and closing times may vary, so it's wise to refer to the official VIT Vellore library website or contact the library staff for the most accurate schedule.

Borrowing and Renewing Books

Students can usually borrow a limited number of books, often ranging from 5 to 10, with a specified duration of 15 to 30 days. Faculty members may have different borrowing privileges, allowing them to check out more books for longer periods.

Renewals:

Books can often be renewed if no holds are placed on them by other users. However, it's advisable to periodically check the library system for any updates or holds on your books.

Fines for Late Returns:

If books are returned late, fines are generally charged per day per book. For the most accurate and current details, including specific fees, it is best to check the official VIT Vellore library website or contact library staff directly.

Use of Resources and Conduct

Always have your ID card when entering the library. For hostel residents, in-time is 9:00 AM for freshers and 9:30 AM for seniors. After obtaining permission and going through the necessary process, you can stay until 12:30 PM.

Fees for Library Services

There are no extra fees for using the library, but there is a nominal library fee included in the tuition fees for students. Fine charges are applicable if books are returned late.

Specific Borrowing Guidelines:

You can issue three books and keep them for 15 days. After the 15-day period, you will be charged a fine of Re.1 per day. You can re-issue the book only once. After that, the book will be given to another user, and you will be eligible to re-issue the book after some time.
