Travelling is a profound way to broaden our horizons and immerse ourselves in the world's natural wonders. Below are some of the most breathtaking natural places I've encountered, each offering a unique and unforgettable experience.
The Enchanting Shore of Port Phillip Bay
One memorable excursion in January 2024 took me to the southern tip of the Frankston Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. As we chased the sunset over Port Phillip Bay, I discovered a sign along the Nepean Highway. While the sign promised a beautiful coastal view, the car park required a pay-per-hour fee, which deterred us. Instead, we settled on a free beach near Dromana, where we enjoyed a fish and chips dinner under the stars in Rosebud. It was a lesson in less-expensive, yet incredibly rewarding travel experiences.
The Grandeur of Haleakala Crater
Haleakala, located on Maui, Hawaii, offers a stunning natural spectacle. The sight of the crater, and the view looking down into its vastness, is breathtaking and awe-inspiring. The experience is unforgettable, with photos and videos failing to capture the full grandeur of the moment. Climbing to the top of Haleakala is akin to standing at the edge of the world, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of nature.
Sunset Views from the USS Valley Forge
Aboard the USS Valley Forge CVS-45, a naval aircraft carrier, watching sunsets while crossing the Atlantic Ocean from the Mediterranean to the United States was a magical moment. The vast expanse of water, the brilliant hues of the setting sun, and the sense of adventure and exploration provided unique insights into the natural beauty of the sea.
The Mesmerizing Al-Ula Region in Saudi Arabia
Traveling to Saudi Arabia was an unforgettable experience. The interplay of ancient history and modern development left a lasting impression. The Al-Ula region, with its surreal sandstone cliffs and ancient carvings, resembled a historic journey back in time. The imposing sandstone formations and vast desert landscapes made the experience feel almost otherworldly. Moreover, the warm hospitality towards visitors, such as sharing tea with locals in the desert and hearing stories about their heritage, added a unique and personal touch to the experience. This blend of cultural richness and stunning landscapes created a truly unforgettable trip.
The Unique Jewel of Lord Howe Island
Exploring Lord Howe Island, Australia, provided a magical experience with world-class natural attractions like Balls Pyramid and Mount Gower. Balls Pyramid, a 1,875-foot-tall granite monolith jutting out of the ocean, provides a surreal and otherworldly experience. Hiking up Mount Gower, one of Australia's best hikes, was an adventure like no other. The experience of petrels falling at your feet and the submerged Galapagos-like ambiance created an unforgettable moment. Additionally, Lord Howe Island is known for its stunning underwater world, with 70 percent of tourists visiting the world's furthest south coral reef. The absence of cars on the island and its natural beauty create a perfect retreat from the chaos of everyday life.
