Personal Experiences and Insights on the RBI Assistant 2023 Preliminary Exam

Welcome to this article where we delve into the experiences and insights shared by a former naval officer who successfully cleared the RBI Assistant 2023 preliminary exam. This article highlights the candidate's journey, including preparation strategies, exam performance, and the overall examination experience. We will explore the key sections of the exam and offer valuable tips for aspirants.

A Personal Perspective on the RBI Assistant Examination

I, an ex-service general, have shared my journey to securing a position as an RBI Assistant. After 15 years of service in the Indian Navy, I retired on January 31, 2024. I was one of the candidates selected from the Mumbai office, with the final merit list released on December 12, 2024. Personally, I found the RBI Assistant Mains exam easier compared to the IBPS Clerk Mains, in which I was also selected and now work at Punjab National Bank.

While my General Awareness (GA) section was challenging, the computer section remained easier. My scores were 107 in the Mains and 91 in the Prelims. As an ESM candidate, 14 marks were added to my Mains score, which enhanced my final merit score, leading to my selection as an RBI Assistant.

First and Last Attempt in RBI Assistant

I made both my first and last attempt for the RBI Assistant position. My preliminary exam was on November 18, 2023, where I attempted a total of 99 questions. Here is a detailed breakdown of my performance:

English: 30 Mathematics: 34 with full accuracy Reasoning: 35 Total: 99 attempts Marks: 90.25 Cutoff for UR: 95/100

Though satisfied with my preliminary performance, I could not clear the cutoff for my state, Tamil Nadu, which had 8 vacancies. Over the two-month preparation period, I completed nearly 100 full mocks, hoping that this knowledge will pay off in future opportunities. Due to the strict age eligibility guidelines, I am no longer eligible for the next year's RBI Assistant recruitment.
