Choosing the Right Path After Class 12: Focus on Interest, Not Just Scores
Receiving a score of 80 in Class 12 science or PCB and 90 in Class 10 from a CBSE school can be considered a solid academic foundation. However, your decision about what to do after Class 12 should not be solely based on these scores. Instead, it should be guided by your interests and goals. Let’s explore various options and career pathways that are available to you.
Pharmacy and NEET Exam for MBBS
One of the most common choices after Class 12 in the science stream is to pursue Pharmacy. Additionally, you can prepare for the NEET exam to secure a spot in undergraduate medical programs (MBBS). However, if your interest lies elsewhere, these options should still be carefully considered.
Medical Sector Courses
There are many courses available in the medical sector that you can explore. From paramedical courses to alternative medicine, there are countless specializations that can complement your academic strengths. It’s important to do your due diligence by researching the courses, eligibility criteria, and future prospects.
Personal Example and Insight
Allow me to share a personal anecdote. I myself scored 85 in my Class 12 science exams and qualified for the prestigious National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other good private engineering universities through the JEE Mains exam. Nonetheless, my interest in architecture, which fused my love for Math and spatial aptitude, led me to take a gap year to prepare for the JEE Architecture exam. Despite the option of pursuing engineering, I decided to follow my passion.
It’s crucial to understand that success is not solely determined by scores. Many students with impressive academic records struggle to excel in fields they don’t genuinely love. Conversely, those who are passionate about their chosen fields often perform admirably, even with average scores.
Emphasizing Interest Over Marks
Every year, a large number of science graduates, scoring well in their board exams, opt for engineering or medical courses without considering their true interests. Unfortunately, many of these students face academic and psychological challenges later as they continue in fields that do not align with their passions. This can unfortunately result in extreme situations like suicide.
My advice to everyone is to follow your interests regardless of your scores. Don’t simply go with the crowd or follow societal expectations. Think about what truly excites you, what you are passionate about, and work towards it. The following points can help you in making a more informed decision:
Self-reflection: Spend time understanding your strengths, interests, and what motivates you. Research: Explore different career options and understand the requirements for each. Consultation: Seek advice from mentors, teachers, and professionals who can provide valuable insights. Exposure: Participate in internships, workshops, and volunteering to gain firsthand experience.By focusing on your interests, you are more likely to achieve long-term satisfaction and success in your chosen career path. Always remember, your path is unique and should be shaped according to your interests and aspirations.
Good luck with your future endeavors, and may your journey be filled with success and joy.
