A Month at IIT: Emotions and Experiences
Welcome to my blog post where I share my first month of life as a fresh student at IIT Kanpur! Though our experience here is fully online, it is a unique blend of emotions that can resonate with many of you. Join me as I delve into my days, filled with a mix of excitement and challenges.
Initial Feelings and Adaptation
When I arrived at IIT Kanpur, my initial feelings were a fascinating mix of a myriad emotions. Overwhelmed, stressed, nervous, and, at the same time, happy and nostalgic. The campus, which we miss dearly, is still very much in our thoughts. The authorities, senior students, secretaries, and coordinators have done their best to create a semblance of college life. However, our online experience is not without its challenges.
Virtual Orientation and Academics
Our virtual orientation was an interesting experience. The academic part was quite tedious, but the involvement of clubs, particularly MnC (Merry New College) and SnT (Science and Technology), was nothing short of fabulous. The camaraderie and spirit were indeed something special.
Living Spaces and Hall Culture
Freshers at IITK live in Hall 13, where there's a nice culture. My actual hall, though, is a beautiful structure with a lift, making it one of the most unique accommodations on campus. It's a place where friendships are made and where home becomes a second home. The hall's culture and traditions add to the overall experience of being a part of this unique family.
Engagement and Campus Life
We had various workshops with different clubs, participated in various competitions for freshers, and won the Mr. Aagaz competition. These activities not only helped in bonding but also in building skills. Even the most embarrassing roles, like 'try' (which is the most awkward job in an online setting), were taken on as challenges. These experiences added to the richness of our online journey.
End of the First Month and Reflections
With hectic days of lab assignments, quizzes, and midterms, the first month flew by. The end of the break was sad, but the new year brought a fresh start. This journey, albeit challenging, is a reminder of the incredible learning and personal growth that await us.
At the end of the month, we're here at IITK like a family. The unique culture and traditions of IITK are something you'll only truly understand when you're here. And, yes, you'll be part of this special community when you come as my junior.
